2021 Paint Color Trends

Whether you’re remodeling your home or looking to brighten up an individual room, the colors you choose can make all the difference. Color trends are something to get excited about. As a child, you might remember having a favorite color. Maybe you wished for everything you owned to be pink, green or blue. As we get older, our tastes change, but some colors continue to warm our hearts, feel like home, or radiate the kind of beauty we just can’t resist. Although color preferences are distinctly subjective, we tend to follow trends and seek inspiration from one another. Interior colors have their on and off seasons, just as certain garments do in fashion. Today we explore 2021 paint color trends.

Pantone 2021 Paint Color of the Year

Pantone revealed two colors to take the name of 2021 Paint Color of the Year together: PANTONE 17-5104, Ultimate Gray and PANTONE 13-0647, Illuminating.

Illuminating is a stunning yellow, vibrant and cheerful, designed to encourage hope, as Pantone describes it. Ultimate Gray, a calming hue, perfectly complements this sunny tone.

Many other popular brands have their own 2021 Paint Color of the Year, in a variety of hues. You’ll find colors to suit every palette. Take a look at Aegean Teal 2136-40 from Benjamin Moore® and Urbane Bronze by Sherwin Williams®.

Popular Paint Colors for 2021

You may also notice additional trends, towards colors you perhaps haven’t seen dominate homes in previous years. Having spent plenty of time at home recently, many residents are keen to improve their indoor spaces to make them more inviting and enjoyable to be in.

  • Orange: From pale peaches to deep sunset tones, orange is set to be a popular accent color this year.
  • Warm neutrals: Designers are moving towards warmer neutral tones with pink, orange or yellow undertones. Beige and tan colors are usually warm.
  • Green: Green will make a striking appearance in homes across the nation. From elegant emerald tones to greens that remind us of the great outdoors, this is one statement color that will appeal to many.
  • Aqua: Bright blues and summery aqua tones are also trending. Designers are turning towards these vibrant hues over the deeper blues that dominated last year.

How to Make the Most of 2021 Paint Color Trends

How much or how little you embrace the popular paint colors of 2021 is up to you. Perhaps an orange kitchen is an on-trend dream come true, or maybe you still adore last year’s navy trend. Remember, you don’t have to go all-in, or keep the paint you choose now, forever. So if something strikes you as beautiful, enjoy it.

If there’s a dominant tone you love, consider picking a complementary neutral color to go with it. As Pantone has cleverly suggested with their 2021 Paint Colors of the Year, a bright color and a softer tone can work perfectly together.
